It is more blessed to Give

GivingThe Worship of the Wise Men

As we enjoy the Christmas season and all the traditions  that accompany it, we are reminded that what is most significant  is, of course, the birth of our Savior. One of the great images that comes to our mind this time of year is the account found in Matthew chapter two of the wise men.

The magi had traveled far and had, I am sure, exhausted a substantial amount of resources to come to see King Jesus.  What is it that they left with?  The answer is nothing.  He – Jesus – was enough! Is he enough for you!

The apostle Paul, in writing to the Phillippian church,  said “But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ.”  The object of the wise men’s faith was Him! They were consumed with what they could do for Him. Notice verse 11,“…Worshipped him …..They presented unto him.”  Whenever you find yourself in the realm of wondering why God hasn’t done this or that,  it may be that  your  Christianity has become a “what  can God do for me?”  rather than “what can I do for God?”  The blessings of God and the reality of God in our lives are always a result of “what can I do for Him?” That is the basis of a faith- filled life.

The greatest of all blessings is the privilege and ability to serve the Master. Some people will sit around all of their lives waiting on God to bless them when what they really should be doing is waiting (serving) on God.  As Acts 20:35 says,  “.. remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive”

Have a blessed and Christ-filled Christmas.
